Common questions about cattle prices

What is the purchase price of cattle per kilogram?
It depends on the category, the weight and the conformation class. The table above gives the EU weekly average purchase price per kilogram of carcass weight. At a FARMSTOCK auction the final price is set by competing buyers, so it can differ from the average.
How often do cattle prices change?
We refresh the figures once a week and show the week-on-week move next to every category - up, down or unchanged. The chart covers the last 52 weeks, so seasonal swings are visible too.
Where do I find lamb prices?
The lamb price table is on this same page, below the cattle table, from the same source and on the same weekly cycle.
Where does the data come from?
From the European Commission's agricultural market monitoring, to which member states report weekly purchase prices by category. FARMSTOCK does not alter the figures; it only converts them to common units.
